Alex Grey is very well known for his collection of paintings called the Sacred Mirrors. He also created the artwork on two album covers for the band Tool.

Artist, Alex Grey, was born in 1953. His paintings and drawings have been inspired by transcendence and death, from the first creation of his early works up until now. Grey attended the Boston Museum School for one year to study with conceptual artist Jay Jaroslav.

The Sacred Mirrors Art Collection

The Chapel of the Sacred Mirrors is the sacred place where Grey's work is displayed for public viewing. It is supported and kept afloat by charitable donations. The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors is a place where people can go to find inspiration and reflect on their creativity.

The chapel was once located in New York City. The doors were closed as of January 1, 2009 so that it could be relocated about sixty miles north. Once the location of the chapel is moved, there will be some major renovations and a grand opening in the Spring of 2010. There is a video tour of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors on Alex Grey's website.

Grey's art collection consists of 21 paintings that have been framed and two etched mirrors. Grey's wife, Allyson, is also a very talented artist and painter, and she has put her knowledge and experience into the chapel as well.

If New York City is too far away for some people to physically enjoy the paintings and artwork at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, a documentary is available on Grey's site. Fans can also visit the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors store where his paintings can be purchased, as well as jewelry and shirts.

Alex Grey's Artwork for Tool

Many of Grey's paintings contain a similar object: an eyeball. Those who are fans of the music group Tool know that the main logo for the group happens to be Grey's infamous eyeball. Both albums, Lateralus and 10,000 Days, have the eyeball appearing in the artwork for the cover more than once.

Grey has worked with Maynard James Keenan of Tool on several concepts for the group including the artwork for two album covers: Lateralus and 10,000 Days. There are some huge Tool fans in America, and it is quite common for them to have some of Grey's artwork put on their bodies permanently.

"I share this paranorma of Being and appreciate all I can share it with...the seamless interweaving of consciousness with each moment," says Grey.
