What is better than a relaxing vacation and learning from accomplished artists? A relaxing vacation with breathtaking views! For our second month of Destinations for Artists, we are featuring destinations that are stunning, relaxing, and have great learning experiences for artists.

The Mount Washington Hotel

Bretton Woods in the White Mountains of New Hampshire has drawn in artists, such as Thomas Cole, for centuries. In the 1800s artists started traveling to the Mount Washington Valley to paint its stunning mountains, waterfalls and some of the highest peaks in the Northeast United States. The Mount Washington Hotel is considered one of the last four "grand hotels" in New Hampshire. It was built speciffically to accomodate the tourists that were drawn to the area by the beauty of the paintings done by artist who had visited. Today, The Mount Washington Hotel Houses an exhibit of 33 paintings and hosts painting workshops.

Triple Creek Ranch

The 600-acre Triple Creek Ranch in Montana takes advantage of the area’s breathtaking big sky country and combines it with a retreat just for artists. A workshop stay includes a stay in a luxury cabin with wood-burning fireplace, stocked bar, private on deck hot tub, painting sessions, art supplies and canvasses, frames for finished works, a guided tour of the ranch’s private art collection, and a “farewell” art exhibit and reception.

Hotel Monaco

If you are looking for a classy place to unwind with an artistic twist, The Hotel Monaco Portland’s “Paint The Town Red” package may be just what you are looking for. While it doesn’t have traditional workshops, it does teach guests all about the fantastic Portland art scene. Considered a historic boutique hotel, the Hotel Monaco’s artist package includes fine wine, an in-room easel, canvas, palette, in-room art films, and paints. The hotel also has an indoor “walking” gallery. What sets the Monaco apart is its Curator-On-Call service, which allows guests to experience a three-hour personalized tour of local galleries with an experienced guide.

Jake’s

Jake’s is called the Bohemian hideaway on Jamaica’s sunny South Coast. In keeping with that theme, the hotel offers workshops and privet lessons focusing on Jamaican art techniques taught by visiting artists-in-residence Ginny O’Neil and Tom Menihan. Jason Henzell, president of Island Outpost and owner of Jake's, says that Jamaican art embodies the flavor and style of the islands and now the hotel wants to share ways of capturing the island on canvas through Jamaican art. The hotel also embodies a good cause. Ginny O’Neil and Tom Menihan have decided to donate 20% of proceeds collected from the workshops to BREDS, a non-profit organization that promotes education, sports, emergency health care, culture, and environmental awareness in Treasure Beach.
