Jane Seymour's artwork is one of her many talents.
Jane Seymour’s days as Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, are long over. Today, this dame is flourishing in one of her many talents since birth. Seymour said in a 2007 phone interview in California, she’s been painting her whole life, and admits she could have gone to college to study art because she got the grades and the credentials in England. But Seymour’s other talents preceded her visual calling. Possessing a strong background in dance as a ballerina and a love for theater as an actress, these gifts became the highlight of Seymour’s career. This actress, wife, mother of six and clothing designer, has done it all. From authoring children’s books, This One That One, with her husband James Keach to acting in films such as the well received Wedding Crashers and dancing on last season’s Dancing with the Stars. Seymour says she expresses herself best in the art of forgiving. If this dame makes a mistake she has learned to make it better. Impressionistic painting"I love doing impressionism, and I love the colors and the texture I can get with it," Seymour says. "When something goes wrong with a watercolor - it’s over. With oils there are lots of things you can do - if you don’t like it just paint right over it and start again." Seymour says good oil paintings can be challenging which is why she works hard at trying to reach perfection. She has painted themed portraits for the winter Olympics and celebration of life pieces. Time to paintAn average day for Seymour starts very early and finishes quite late. As a multi-tasked career woman, she must set aside time to paint. This routine usually consists of closing the door and turning off her telephone. She says she gets her inspiration from trips to her castle in England in St. Catherine’s Court. She became so inspired after spending Christmas there that she started doing pastels of her children. Painting a different world with an array of beautiful watercolors and vibrant oil paintings, Seymour expresses herself well in both mediums but her talents are endless. Seymour also sculpts in her spare time, juggles a jewelry line, painting kits she has designed for new artists and a home decorating collection. So one can only imagine every time Seymour takes a break to sit down and start a painting it becomes a challenge - making her art world just as important as show business - but without the hassle, she says.
