"Somewhere in Time" is not just a movie, it is a romantic mirror of the past that is coming to light in the present through the beautiful art of Stephen Shortridge.

“A cynic is merely a disappointed Romantic.” This simple quote by, singer Boy George, is precisely the message that artist Stephen Charles Shortridge conveys through his “Romantic Impressionist” pieces that have been exhibited in galleries nationwide. The universal appeal of Stephen Shortridge and his paintings attract connoisseurs and collectors as well as art neophytes and true romantics alike. Born in Iowa and raised in Southern California, Stephen represents the All-American lifestyle with his well-rounded background including extensive studies of art, his successful career in acting including major roles in movies and significant parts in '70s & '80s TV shows such as The Love Boat & Welcome Back Kotter and through his athletic abilities. His love of nature and horses lead him to pursue polo in High School and he earned a Polo Scholarship for college. It is from this multifaceted personal history and talent that this established Romantic Impressionist derives his God-inspired philosophy.

Stephen Shortridge has a Heartfelt Motto Regarding Creating Art

“ I Think the More Important Aspect of Creating is Staying True to Your Heart and Trying to Share the Passion. I think too often we pursue knowledge rather than experience or relationship. Knowledge never creates anything but intimate experience of the heart does,” added Shortridge. This mind-set is clearly represented in his beautiful paintings that have origins from nature, romance, American nostalgia & music. Furthermore, his works of art are, indeed, reminiscent of Monet, however, infused with an aggressive edge and preference for full colors and bold painting strokes which are his trademark and easily identified in each unique and exquisite piece. The titles of the paintings are equally alluring even to a cynic or an individual who has not been exposed to art – Summer Symphony, A Rose for Two, Classic Comfort, My Piano, Afternoon Tea, Before the Recital, just to name a few. Consequently, the great creations of Stephen Charles Shortridge will be sure to strike a chord in all who appreciate the classics, beauty, passion and pleasure!

"Art can be a Wonderful Asset Acquired and Enjoyed by its Intrinsic and Aesthetic Values Each and Every Day”

Mr. Shortridge is in complete agreement with this quote from gallery owner Jim Cote. This passionate artist hopes to stimulate innocent excitement with traditional undertones by retaining a ‘real’ perspective in his mass appeal. His showings would definitely befit a first date or serendipitous encounter. It is easy and affordable to join Stephen’s growing fans and collectors amongst celebrities such as Peter Falk, Patty Duke and Donna Summer. Stephen’s paintings are timeless and reflect deep emotions of love and harmony. These inspirational works can also be enjoyed as gifts for a special person, valentine, loved one, wedding or for personal enchantment in your home to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

In the late '80s, Shortridge became humbled and left the glamour of Hollywood to concentrate solely on his true passion: painting. At this time, Stephen presents gallery showings across the United States. He currently resides in Idaho with his wife and children.
